Stay in Touch with Your Friends with the New In-Game Mail System

When Live Update #5 arrives on the live servers during the week of March 21, you will be able to exchange in-game mail with your fellow EverQuest II players! You can send and receive mail at Norrathian Express mailboxes located in East Freeport and Qeynos Harbor, as well as all their respective districts and villages. Additionally, guilds that are level 15 and higher can choose to purchase their own mailbox through status merchants.

Clicking on a mailbox will open the Mail window, which has two tabs: Inbox and Send. Your Inbox shows the mail you have received, listing the subject and the name of the sender. It also shows any gifts that are attached to letters that have been sent to you. Mail remains in your Inbox for a limited period of time before it is automatically deleted. Once you've read a letter, it will be deleted 3 days after opening it, while unread mail will be deleted after 30 days. The time remaining until deletion is shown to the right of each letter.

To read your mail, click on a letter in your Inbox. This will open another window that displays the letter's contents. Letters can contain money or an item. These are shown below the text of the letter. You can accept these parcels by clicking the Receive Gifts button. To reply to the sender, click on the Reply button.

While you can send mail to anyone, you can only send gifts to another character that is a citizen of the same city you are. So, while a Qeynos resident can send a message to someone in Freeport, they cannot exchange money or items using the mail system. Additionally, you cannot send any items that are flagged as No Trade or Lore.

If you have unread mail waiting for you, you will see a mail icon in your Spell Effects window. This icon will always appear in the first slot, and mousing over it will inform you that "You have unread mail."

You can also send messages to your friends on other servers, or to those who play EverQuest and Star Wars Galaxies.

  • To send mail to someone on another EQ2 server, enter their name as servername.charname
  • To send mail to a friend playing EQ, enter their name as eq.servername.charname
  • To send mail to a friend in SWG, enter their name as swg.servername.charname
  • Players in SWG or EQ can send mail to EverQuest II players by entering their name as eq2.servername.charname

Here are some Frequently Asked Questions about the in-game mail system:

If a letter with coin or items goes unread for 30 days, are the coin and items returned to the sender or are they gone?
Gifts are deleted along with the message, so be sure your recipient will be able to receive your gifts within 30 days of sending them.

How long does it take for a letter I sent to be received?
Plain text messages should be received immediately, while messages with attachments will be delayed for 30 minutes.

Is there a difference in the postage if I send an item along with the letter vs. just text?
Just like in our world, sending letters in Norrath costs money. Plain text letters cost 10c to send. Letters with gifts attached cost 50c. There is no charge to read mail that has been sent to you.

Is there a limit on how many items I can send with each letter?
You can send one item and any amount of coin.

Is there a maximum number of letters that can remain in my mailbox? If so, what happens when I hit the maximum amount?
You can have up to 50 messages in your Inbox at any one time. Once you have 50 messages in your Inbox, anyone who tries to send you mail will see a message indicating that your Inbox is full.
