Summary
Just as player characters have levels that reflect their achievements within the game, so do guilds. Guild members earn experience toward their guild's level primarily through the completion of special city tasks. Unique rewards and items become available at reduced prices as the guild advances in level and its members gain prestige and status within the city.

City Tasks
City tasks are straightforward, repeatable quests that, rather than grant adventure or artisan experience, will reward some or all of the following: guild experience, individual status points, and faction. Any guild member of level 10 or higher may hail a task NPC to receive a level-appropriate quest. As player characters rise in level, they will be directed to additional NPCs for higher-level quests. The beginning task NPCs within each city are as follows:

Patrons and Followers
Guild officers have the ability within the guild interface to designate particular members as patrons. Patrons serve as the guild's vanguard and should typically be those members most committed to completing city tasks. All guild members who are not marked as patrons are classified as followers.

Status Points
Upon completion of a city task, a message appears within the chat interface indicating the number of status points that were awarded. Status points are a reflection of both the quest level and the guild level: completing a high-level quest in a high-level guild will award more status points than completing that same quest in a low-level guild, while a low-level quest results in more status points in a low-level guild than it does in a high-level guild. Status points, displayed within the Persona interface, are tied to the character and serve as an alternate form of currency for purchasing special rewards. Status points are not transferable between characters and are retained by the individual should he or she leave a guild.

Guild Experience
While both patrons and followers can earn status points, only patrons earn guild experience through the completion of city tasks. The amount of guild experience earned through a city task is calculated as the status points awarded divided by the greater of (a) the total number of patrons or (b) twelve.

Factions
Within each city are five NPC factions corresponding to the class archetypes: fighter, priest, mage, scout, and artisan. Examples of these factions are the Seafury Buccaneers within Freeport and the Ironforge Exchange within Qeynos. Though all tasks benefit the city, each faction regards those who have focused on its concerns and ambitions more favorably. Upon the completion of a city task, one or more messages appear within the chat interface indicating any change to your faction. Usually, these messages include .one positive change, corresponding to the faction that issued the task, and four negative changes, corresponding to the remaining factions. There are limits to the faction impact of city tasks, such that these five factions will never drop so low that a player character is denied tasks or attacked by faction NPCs. Note that while one must be a member of a guild to receive the city tasks that affect faction, each player has his or her own faction; there is no overall guild faction standing.

Rewards
The following is a general overview (and not a complete list) of city task rewards:
  • Guild Tag - Upon reaching guild level 5, the guild tag becomes visible to players outside of the guild.
  • City Rewards - Within each of the four city districts is a City Merchant designated as the seller of guild level rewards. These constitute the majority of the guild advancement system rewards and include such items as furniture, costumes, and tradeskill devices.
  • Faction Rewards - Within each faction hall, which is generally located in the vicinity of the task NPCs, is a merchant designated as the seller of faction level rewards. These may include such rewards as titles and costumes.
  • Housing - Some apartments are available only to members of guilds of a particular level. Such housing is purchased and rented through a combination of coin and status points.
  • Mounts - Stable merchants offer mounts at reduced prices to members of guilds of a particular level. Some mounts are available only to members of high-level guilds.
  • Raids - Repeatable, instanced raids become available at certain guild levels. These are optional and do not award status points.
