To celebrate the 10th Anniversary of EverQuest, Sony Online Entertainment is hosting the “Norrath’s Timeless Heroes” contest.  Norrathian have this opportunity to show us why they deserve to be one of Norrath’s Timeless Heroes!

For EverQuest II

Contest: 

From Friday, March 13, 2009 (6:00 p.m., US Pacific Time) through Friday, April 10, 2009 at (11:59 p.m., US Pacific Time), Sony Online Entertainment will be hosting the “Norrath’s Timeless Heroes” contest.

Using live photography (real life pictures), in-game imagery through screenshots or modified screenshots, original artwork, and their special skills, EverQuest II community members have this opportunity to depict a visual representation of why they think their character deserves to be one of Norrath’s Timeless Heroes.

The EverQuest II character depicted in the image should be displayed in a heroic or action pose and setting, and/or performing a heroic act, and depicted as a hero of Norrath.  It should be clear to the panel of judges from your Artwork that your EverQuest II character (as depicted in the Artwork) should be declared a hero of Norrath.

In addition, submissions must include a 300 word or less story or description about the character and what is being displayed in the image.

Winners will be announced on or around Friday, April 24, 2009.

How to Enter:

Submissions should be sent in an e-mail to SOEContests@soe.sony.com.  Be sure to include all of the following required information with your submission:

  • Description: Provide a 300 words or less description that tells a story about the character and what is being displayed in the image.
  • Hyperlink to where the file is hosted - All files must be hosted externally and be made available to download.  Do not attach the file to the entry e-mail.
  • In-Game Character Name and Server:

Images Submission Details:
Images submitted must be in the form live photography (real life pictures), EverQuest II screenshot or modified EverQuest II screenshots without copyrighted materials included, and/or original artwork. Do not submit any images that are copyrighted or those that belong to someone else.  Potential winners will be required to sign a release form regarding the ownership and usage of the image.

Character names and NPC names should be turned off in the image. Do not include any text in the image.

The image size must be 800 x 600 pixels. Also note, while planning your image keep in mind that the borders of the images may be cropped when they are converted to game art.

 

The Selection Process:

A panel of judges will review the submissions and select a winner.  The panel of judges consists of members from EverQuest II’s Community, Development, Public Relations, and other management teams.  In case of a tie, the judges will determine which submission best fits the theme of EverQuest, EverQuest II and the contest.

When viewing the entries, the panel judges will use a 0-100 point scale, with 0-35 points for originality, 0-35 points for creativity, and 0-30 points for thematic content consistent with the boundless possibilities for adventure within the world of EverQuest II (including storylines, characters, cinematography, special effects, editing and/or the embodiment of the EverQuest and EverQuest II adventuring spirit).

Character and item names are subject to final approval of SOE and must be consistent with the game Terms of Service Agreement.

After the judging has been completed, the final approval process begins. An email will be sent to the potential winners and they will be required to submit a response within a specific allotted period.

Once the final approval process ends, the winners will be announced on the EQII Players website.

 

Prizes:

First Place (up to 1 winner)

  • An in-game portrait will be created from and named after the winning submission.  The character will also receive that item in-game for that character. (This item and its properties will be determined by the SOE Development team)
  • 1 Year’s worth of Free Game Time (Retail Value: $179.99)

Second Place (up to 9 winners)

  • An in-game portrait will be created from and named after the winning submission.  The character will also receive that item in-game for that character. (This item and its properties will be determined by the SOE Development team)
  • One 30-Day SOE Game Card (Retail Value: $14.99)

Honorable Mentions

  • Submissions selected as honorable mentions will only receive recognition on the EverQuest II Website, Forums, and other sources of news.

 

Contest Rules:

  1. Please view the Official Contest Rules below before submitting an entry.
  2. You must be 18 years of age or older and a U.S. resident in order to participate.

  3. This contest is limited to one (1) entry consisting of the Artwork and Description per person. Subsequent entries and entries that do not include Artwork and Description will be void. Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any person or e-mail address that submits multiple entries. Only one submission per person is permitted.

  4. Please remember to stay within the Terms of Service Agreement when participating in this contest or you will be disqualified and further action may be taken. This includes inappropriate names, words, or images.

  5. Within the Terms of Service Agreement, it states that by submitting (e.g., uploading or transmitting) Content to an SOE Communication Feature, you automatically grant SOE the royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive, and fully sublicensable right and license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, perform and display such Content (in whole or part) worldwide and/or to incorporate it in other works in any form, media, or technology now known or later developed. In addition, you warrant that any and all so-called "moral rights" in the Content have been waived.

OFFICIAL RULES
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN.

Participation constitutes entrant's full and unconditional agreement to and acceptance of these Official Rules. The EverQuest II “Norrath’s Timeless Heroes” The Contest (“Contest”) begins at 6:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time on March 13, 2009, and ends at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Standard Time on April 10, 2009 (“Contest Period”). The Contest is sponsored by Sony Online Entertainment LLC, 8928 Terman Court, San Diego, CA 92121 (“Sponsor”). Submissions received after Contest Period are void and will not be judged. Winners will be announced on or about April 24, 2009.

Eligibility: The Contest is open only to natural persons who are legal residents of the fifty (50) United States (including the District of Columbia) for the duration of the Contest. Void in Puerto Rico, Guam, all other U.S. and all foreign territories and possessions and wherever prohibited or restricted by law. The Contest may only be entered from and in eligible jurisdictions. Entrants must be eighteen (18) years of age or older at time of entry in order to participate. Employees, officers, directors, and agents of Sponsor, its parent company, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising, promotion, and fulfillment agencies, their immediate family members and persons living in their same household, are not eligible to participate in the Contest.  All federal, state, and local laws and regulations apply.

How to Enter: To enter, send the following to SOEContests@soe.sony.com: (i) one (1) live photograph, EverQuest II screenshot, or original artwork that you personally created, (each, "Artwork"), 800 x 600 pixels in size, that depicts a visual representation of your EverQuest II character displayed in a heroic or action pose and setting, and/or performing a heroic act, and depicted as a hero of Norrath, through thematic content consistent with the world of EverQuest II (including storylines, characters, cinematography, special effects, editing and/or the embodiment of the EverQuest II adventuring spirit). It should be clear to the panel of judges from your Artwork that your EverQuest II character (as depicted in the Artwork) should be declared a hero of Norrath; and (ii) a description of three hundred (300) words or less that tells a story about what is being displayed in the Artwork (“Description”), and why your Artwork depicts a hero of Norrath. Include in the body of your e-mail the Description and a link to the Artwork.  Do not include your Artwork as an attachment. The Artwork must be hosted externally, and made available for download by Sponsor. All entries must contain “EverQuest II “Norrath’s Timeless Heroes” Contest” in the e-mail subject line, and in addition to the link to the Artwork and the Description, e-mails should also contain the title of the Artwork, your in-game character name, your name, mailing address (including street address, apartment number (if any), city, state and zip code; no P.O. Box will be accepted), forum community handle (if applicable), server name, and e-mail address. Additionally, please update your Station Account to reflect your current contact information in the event that you are chosen as a potential winner. Contest is limited to one (1) entry consisting of the Artwork and Description per person. Subsequent entries and entries that do not include Artwork and Description will be void. Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any person or e-mail address that submits multiple entries. Any submission of robotic, automatic, or programmed entries, or any entries submitted by agencies, other third parties, or through other unapproved methods are void. Any attempt at entry except as stated herein is void. Sponsor will not provide you with confirmation of receipt of your submission. Review the judging criteria for your submission located in the Panel of Judges section below. By participating in the Contest, you agree to comply with the EverQuest II End User License Agreement, Station Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, and all other EverQuest II rules, regulations, and policies. Entrants not complying with these requirements will be disqualified. You expressly acknowledge and agree that all content submitted is owned by Sponsor. The concept for the Artwork must be your original design and creation, the concept for and content of the Description must be your original creation, and neither the Artwork nor the Description may be subject to the rights of any third parties, other than Sponsor. The content of the Artwork and the Description may not be offensive or otherwise unsuitable for use, as determined in Sponsor's sole discretion. By participating in the Contest, you acknowledge and agree that Sponsor has an irrevocable right and license to publish, use, edit, and display any or all of your Artwork and Description, without further approval from you, without territorial, time, or other limitations, for any and all purposes, including, but not limited to, marketing, advertising, and promotional purposes.

Determination of Winners: Winners will be selected in accordance with the following judging procedure.

Panel of Judges: Eligible entrants will be judged by a panel of judges, consisting of members of Sponsor's EverQuest II development, marketing, and community relations teams, according to the criteria set forth below, and whose decisions are final and binding in all respects. The panel of judges will use the following criteria in determining a ranking of the top submissions (the number of which is at Sponsor's discretion, based upon the number and quality of entries) for the Contest: The panel of judges will use a 0-100 point scale: 0-35 points for originality, 0-35 points for creativity, and 0-30 for thematic content consistent with the world of EverQuest II, (including storylines, characters, cinematography, special effects, editing and/or the embodiment of the EverQuest II adventuring spirit, and how well your entry represents the theme of the Contest). In the unlikely event of a tie for any portion of the Contest, the judging panel shall break that tie by determining which of the tied entries better represents the theme of EverQuest II and the Contest (depiction of a visual representation of your EverQuest II character displayed in a heroic or action pose and setting, and/or performing a heroic act, and depicted as a hero of Norrath, through thematic content consistent with the world of EverQuest II (including storylines, characters, cinematography, special effects, editing and/or the embodiment of the EverQuest II adventuring spirit)). Winners will only be selected from those eligible entries meeting the judging criteria set forth above, and if no entry meets the criteria above, in the panel's sole and absolute discretion, then no prize shall be awarded. One (1) eligible entrant receiving the highest number of points from the panel of judges in each category combined will be the Grand Prize Winner, subject to verification or eligibility by Sponsor following the Contest Period, on or about April 24, 2009. Sponsor will announce the winners on the EverQuest II Player’s website at http://eq2players.station.sony.com/.

Description of Grand Prize: The panel of judges will choose one (1) Grand Prize Winner, who will be displayed as the Grand Prize Winner of the EverQuest II “Norrath’s Timeless Heroes” Contest on the EverQuest II Player’s website at http://eq2players.station.sony.com/ and/or any other EverQuest II-related websites, forums and newsletters (in Sponsor’s sole discretion, and subject to Sponsor guidelines, standards, and practices, and in a manner and location determined by Sponsor in its discretion). Additionally, the Grand Prize Winners will receive an in-game portrait depicting the winning Artwork. Sponsor will create an in-game portrait from the grand prize winning Artwork submission, the Grand Prize Winner will receive his or her winning portrait, and portrait will be available to other players to purchase as an in-game item for sale and place in their in-game player housing. If the winning Artwork is a live photograph, Sponsor will convert the photograph to a digital representation of the photograph.  The in-game portrait depicting the winning Artwork submission will include the Grand Prize Winner character name and the Artwork title submitted with the Artwork as the item description. Sponsor reserves the right to not include or modify the Grand Prize Winner’s character name and/or Artwork title at its sole discretion. Additionally, the Grand Prize Winner will receive one (1) year of EverQuest II game play time (ARV: $179.99).  To redeem this prize you must have a Station Account, subject to the prior acceptance of license and usage terms.  One (1) year of game play time begins within two (2) weeks after prize is awarded, or if you have an EverQuest II subscription already, the one (1) year period begins at the end of your then-current subscription period; thereafter, if you choose to continue your subscription, additional recurring fees will apply. Description of Second Place Prize: The panel of judges will choose up to nine (9) Second Place Prize Winner(s), who will be displayed as the Second Place Prize Winner(s) of the EverQuest II “Norrath’s Timeless Heroes” Contest on the EverQuest II Player’s website at http://eq2players.station.sony.com/ and/or any other EverQuest II-related websites, forums and newsletters (in Sponsor’s sole discretion, and subject to Sponsor guidelines, standards, and practices, and in a manner and location determined by Sponsor in its discretion). Additionally, the Second Place Prize Winner(s) will receive an in-game portrait depicting the winning Artwork. Sponsor will create an in-game portrait from the grand prize winning Artwork submission, the Grand Prize Winner will receive his or her winning portrait, and portrait will be available to other players to purchase as an in-game item for sale and place in their in-game player housing. If the winning Artwork is a live photograph, Sponsor will convert the photograph to a digital representation of the photograph.  The in-game portrait depicting the winning Artwork submission will include the Second Place Prize Winner character name and the Artwork title submitted with the Artwork as the item description. Sponsor reserves the right to not include or modify the Second Place Prize Winner’s character name and/or Artwork title at its sole discretion. Additionally, the Second Place Prize winner will receive one (1) 30-day SOE game card (ARV: $14.99). Total ARV of the Second Place Prize: US$14.99 each, and US$134.91 if all nine (9) second place prizes are awarded.

Description of Honorable Mention Prize: The panel of judges will choose Honorable Mention Winners, who will be displayed as the Honorable Mention Winners of the EverQuest II “Norrath’s Timeless Heroes” Contest on the EverQuest II Player’s website at http://eq2players.station.sony.com/ and/or any other EverQuest II-related websites, forums and newsletters (in Sponsor’s sole discretion, and subject to Sponsor guidelines, standards, and practices, and in a manner and location determined by Sponsor in its discretion). Total ARV of the Honorable Mention Prize: US$0.00.

ARV of all prizes if all prizes are awarded: US$314.90.

General Limitations for all prizes: No alternative prize, cash, or other substitution is permitted, except by Sponsor, in the event of prize unavailability. Prizes are non-transferable. All federal, state, and local taxes are the sole responsibility of the winner. A total of up to ten (10) prizes will be awarded. The potential winners will be notified by e-mail or first class mail within five (5) business days of the conclusion of the judging. Each potential winner will have five (5) business days from notification to accept the prize by e-mail or by U.S. mail to the address specified in the notification. Prizes will be delivered within approximately six (6) to eight (8) weeks of verification/confirmation of winners.  

Requirements of Winner: Potential winners of prizes are required to sign and return affidavits of release, releases of liability, declarations of eligibility, and where lawful, publicity consent agreements, within five (5) days of acknowledged notification. By agreeing to become a winner and/or accepting and/or using a prize, winner agrees to the use of his or her name, voice and/or likeness, and Artwork and/or Description, for the purpose of advertising, trade, or promotion by Sponsor without further compensation, unless prohibited by law. If you are chosen as a winner, you agree to submit your EverQuest II character name and allow Sponsor to display it next to your Artwork and/or Description. If a selected potential winner cannot be contacted, is ineligible (under these rules or due to a failure to comply with any of the other applicable policies, licenses, rules, and terms of service), fails to claim a prize, or fails to timely return the completed and executed releases/agreements as required, the prize may be forfeited and an alternate potential winner may, at Sponsor's discretion, be selected.

General Terms and Conditions: By participating in the Contest, entrant agrees that under no circumstances, including, but not limited to, negligence, shall Sponsor or its licensors, its and their respective officers, directors, employees, shareholders, agents, successors, and assigns, and all prize providers (the “Released Parties”) be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising out participation in the Contest, even if any or all of the Released Parties have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, and therefore such exclusions may not apply to you. By participating in the Contest, you waive any and all rights to bring any claim or action related to your participation in any forum beyond one (1) year after the first occurrence of the kind of act, event, condition or omission upon which the claim or action is based. By entering, you agree to be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of Sponsor, which shall be final. Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any person, entry, or e-mail address that Sponsor determines to be in violation of any term contained in these Official Rules. Sponsor, its parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, licensors, advertising, promotion, and fulfillment agencies, legal advisors, prize providers, and the respective employees, officers, directors, shareholders, agents, and representatives of each, are not responsible for and shall not be liable for: (i) late, lost, delayed, damaged, misdirected, stolen, incomplete, illegible, unintelligible or postage-due entries, notices, releases, forms, affidavits, or other correspondence; (ii) telephone, electronic, hardware or software program, network, Internet, or computer malfunctions, failures, interruptions or difficulties of any kind; (iii) failed, incomplete, garbled, or delayed computer transmissions; (iv) any condition caused by events beyond the control of the Sponsor that may cause the Contest to be disrupted or corrupted; (v) any injuries, losses, or damages of any kind arising in connection with or as a result of a prize, or acceptance, possession, or use of a prize, or from participation in the Contest or arising from the entrant's access to and use of the Internet site http://www.station.sony.com (and all related websites of Sponsor, including http://everquest2.station.sony.com and http://eq2players.station.sony.com/), including without limitation, personal injury, death, and property damage, and claims based on publicity rights, defamation, or invasion of privacy, to the extent permitted by law; or (vi) any errors in any materials associated with the Contest. Sponsor reserves the right to cancel, suspend and/or modify the Contest if any problem corrupts the administration, security, or operation of the Contest, as determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion. Sponsor reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any individual it finds to be tampering with the entry process or the operation of the Contest or to be acting in violation of these Official Rules or in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner. Any attempt by any person to undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest may be a violation of criminal and civil law, and, should such an attempt be made, Sponsor reserves the right to seek damages from any such person to the fullest extent permitted by law. Sponsor's failure to enforce any term of these Official Rules shall not constitute a waiver of that provision.

Disputes: Contest is governed by the laws of the United States and the State of California. As a condition of participating in the Contest, you agree that any and all actions or proceedings related to the Contest shall be exclusively brought in the County of San Diego, State of California (if under state law) or the Southern District of California (if under Federal law), and the parties agree not to raise in connection therewith, and hereby waive, any defenses based upon the venue, the inconvenience of the forum, the lack of personal jurisdiction, the sufficiency of service of process or the like in any such action or suit brought in the State of California.

Winners List and Official Rules: A winners list will be posted on the web site at http://eq2players.station.sony.com/ at the conclusion of the Contest. To obtain a copy of the winners list or a copy of these Official Rules, send your request along with a stamped, self-addressed envelope to: Attn: Marketing Department "EverQuest II “Norrath’s Timeless Heroes” Contest," Sony Online Entertainment LLC, 8928 Terman Court, San Diego, CA 92121. Requests must be received no later than June 30, 2009.
