Congratulations to the Winners!

The EverQuest II Guild Hall Design Contest has come to an end.  We received a large amount of submissions with great stories and amazing images.  It’s truly amazing how quickly and how well each guild had designed their hall.  From neatly, organized, themed halls to total evil and chaos, each submission was well worth the review.  Unfortunately, there can only be a couple winners.  A huge thanks to you all for celebrating in “Raising the Banners” with us.  We hope you continue to enjoy your guild hall for many more years to come.

CONTEST DETAILS:
The contest ran until Oct. 31, 2008. Eligible contestants submitted “three in-game screen shots” of their decorated guild hall accompanied with a two or three paragraph story of the history of their guild and why guild halls are so important to them.  The players that displayed the most impressive screens and shared the most interesting story won a bundle of goods from Matrox and SOE.

Story –
Formed soon after Frostfell in early 2005, we of the Dawn Alliance have chosen a subtle path to glory. Our trials and tribulations over the years allowed us to collect many artifacts and learn how to craft even more yet. With this knowledge and these treasures, we set forth to decorate a Hall representative of our ideals in Norrath. We wanted a Hall that was large enough to hold all of our members and yet small enough to represent our closeness. With most of our needs met within the Hall, we are able to dine, drink, and relax within our newly acquired walls, as these pictures show.
Many of our mages are rather cold-natured, not having lived in the far North so we saw fit to fill a room with a warm fire, soft padded chairs and a place to put their feet up after long hours of standing and battling evil enemies in the wilds of Norrath. With our crafting area (not pictured) across from this room, it's also a perfect location for our customers to sit and relax while waiting for their requests to be crafted. This room reflects our wealth and state of mind in how we live our daily lives in Norrath. Our dining hall represents our rich ideals with bright reds and soft creams.
A throne sits at the front center to represent our respect for the Queen as if she were residing at each of our merry meals we share together. Once our bellies are full, our party continues in the tavern setting in the back. This is the area you'll usually find our seasoned warriors drinking ale and wine with our talented bards weaving webs of their mighty tales to anyone and everyone who cares to listen. The soft bubbling of our aquatic tank soothes tired nerves and the wine never ceases to flow. Our guild has been through many trying times in the last nearly four years, but one thing remains the same: through thick and thin, the Dawn Alliance lives on.

Story -
With the setting sun low in the sky many things come to pass: The undead rise from their graves and start to roam; shopkeepers pack up their wares and journey home to count their money;  small children are tucked snugly  into warm beds and told bedtime stories of a time before Luclin was destroyed.  The heat of the day rises from the cobblestone paths and is replaced by a cold, damp mist drifting in from the river. It is in these twilight hours that the members of After Dark meet.  Through diligent game play these brave souls strive to carve our own niche into North's landscape.
Entering the guild hall I reminded of a time when things were not so easy for a late night traveler seeking a companion.  These hours were reserved for the die hard tradeskiller, solo insomniac player, or harvesting fiend. It is for these people that After Dark exists. Originally created out of necessity, After Dark has become a menagerie of players who find themselves keeping abnormal hours. We have constructed our own community bound by the common need for a social connection during a less then peak playtime. All players, regardless of play style or time commitment, will find themselves welcomed and accepted for their talents. Once assembled our adventurers keep watch over a sleeping world and provide a haven for all displaced souls.

As the moon starts its cycle towards dawn the hall takes on new life.  We meet and discuss the day. Crafter's take to the tables helping to outfit their brethren; Fighters duel in preparation for the trials that lay ahead; Healers take solace in the garden while downstairs the bards gather in the tavern to tune their instruments. As it has developed, the hall has helped to foster relationships and a common aspiration for our members. It is a visual conformation of our allegiance to the guild, the game, and each other.  Be it brokering or battling, travelling or tradeskilling, the hall has become the epicenter of all After Dark members. Thanks for finally giving us these beautiful guild halls to decorate! I have been playing around with houses since i started playing everquest 2 and just had to make a carpenter right away. I've had so much fun with it over the last few years. I have built quite a repertoire of friends on the permafrost server that all enjoy it and share ideas and help each other along with crafting. The community of decorators is really one of the best aspect of this game and keeps most of us playing when we can't raid or do other things or just don't feel like it. Sometimes it's really nice after a long hard day at work to just sit in my house and enjoy what i have created. I even met my current girlfriend through this game and one of the things we connected on first was house decorating hehe.
My guilds name is Crimson. For awhile when RoK first came out we had a bustling little community of friends who just enjoyed playing together and hanging out in game talking and carrying on. Once everyone hit level 80 and wanted more out of the expansion via raiding we knew we couldn't hold on to people for long, and soon after many left. Right now my girlfriend, one other friend and myself are all that is left of Crimson, but we hold onto it and I'm glad we did. We now have a tier 1 Freeport guild hall!! Yay! after much toiling and many frustrating hours of work to get the feel of the place just right we are very comfortable here. We made ourselves a nice aquarium and fountain to sit by and listen to the rushing water. A bar of course so we can get drunk in game and then feel sick to our stomachs when the screen goes blurry (i really do get sick btw).

Our bedroom has a nice jacuzzi by the large window in the smaller room upstairs, complete with a hibachi in case we get hungry. Our entryway is probably the most impressive and i cant thank you enough for letting us have the leafy rugs which i used to create a vine and leaf covered throne that stretches up the wall to encompass the glowing orb in the ceiling. Off to the left in the large room is our creepy forest decorated in true Halloween creepy fashion, and will soon hold our druid ring. Downstairs we have our guild crafting area, which is lovely. Feel free to stop by anytime...

Honorable Mention
One (1) Third Place winner will receive one (1) EQII promotional guild hall pewter key (estimated retail value of $9.99) and one in-game statue for their guild hall. TOTAL ARV OF ALL PRIZES: $9.99.

Story-
The story and history of Taunting Fate has always interested me since the day I joined, when my husband encouraged that yes, even I, the one who tends to zap a computers’ motherboard by just looking at it, could play Everquest II. This is where my adventure with Taunting Fate begins. I create a cute little templar fae and begin my adventure in the world of gaming.   I was put into Taunting Fate where I quickly found that everyone whether new or not was willing to help me learn my way.  This guild is about making everyone feel welcomed and find their own place within its large family. You have your crafters, harvesters, one who solos or the daring ones who choose to raid, but all in all they are friends. People you never met where you can share your life stories, cry, or laugh. .
There are a lot of couples in this guild so I felt welcomed by playing with other wives why the husbands went off to do their macho thing and slay some beast trapped within its kingdom. I was once told by the guild leader Loklok, who told me that the name Taunting Fate came from when he fell in a thorn patch, where a Native American found him and healed his wounds. When he awakened the Native American looked at him and said “Next time you taunt fate, use a bigger stick”.  I have no clue if that story is true or not but it tells who we are as a guild. We will take in just about anyone and try anything as long as we do it together
The guild halls show how we work together.  I was amazed the day they came out. Within hours we had people logging on and seeing the brand new guild hall we worked so hard to purchase.  There were things we wish to purchase for this guild hall and people began dumping almost all their status or money they had in the escrow so we could make the guild hall our own unique design.  Designers were quickly chosen and they began their creativity using ideas that were told by every guild member.  The screenshots you see are not just something that I created and designed, but the ideas of a whole guild. The chessboard has been in our guild form quite sometime and I was honored to move it to the guild hall from Neriak for its members to use.
Each piece is a person within our guild.  Everyday I get so excited when I log in to the crafting area and see a group of Taunting Fate guild members working away at the crafting stations.  One of our guild leaders is a real life priest so I created a chapel within the guild hall so he would have a place in our magical world to give his sermons. I was truly thrilled to see the guild halls come out and make our guild even closer as friends but most important as a family. However, beware… you betray Taunting Fate you are likely to find your self in the crematorium.
These guild halls mean a lot to not just me but all of Taunting Fate. Some in our guild have said, “The guild halls are the best thing to come to Everquest II since sliced bread”, and I would have to agree.  It continues to bring joy to me as I work hard placing all the details within the guild hall.  I could do it all day long. I love to decorate. If you’re ever on the Permafrost server come to Taunting Fate’s guild hall. All are welcomed to explore its walls and find its hidden secrets.
