The EQII live servers were hot fixed with a new server-side spam filtering tool today. The purpose of this filter is, predictably, to reduce the number of spam messages you receive while playing the game. To ensure that there is no confusion about the new filtering tool, we would like to share some information about how it will affect your gameplay.

The new system will review messages sent, at the server level, and flag the messages that have been identified as spam. These messages will be contained and will not go through to the recipient in their initial form.

This is how the messages looked in the past; you got the full message as we did not have server-side filtering.

With the server-side spam filtering in place, you will now receive a message indicating that you have received a spam message, unless you have chosen to not view spam indicators (see below).

Should you recognize the sender and want to receive the message, you can click on the [View] option, and you will see the full text of the message.

By default, you will be given the system message when spam is directed toward you. Should you wish to not receive the system message, you can modify your Chat Options as shown below and opt out of receiving the system message.

In the case that you receive a message that does get through the spam filter, please file a /report and /petition noting the person who is sending you this message. This will enable the Customer Service department to take action on the spammer, and also help us continue to evolve the filter.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while the dev team worked on this new system. It is our hope that everyone will see a reduction in the number of spam messages they receive due to this filter, and we strongly encourage you to take advantage of the /report and /petition systems to make note of anyone who seems to get through the filter. If you would like to discuss this new filter, please join the existing thread in the EQII official forums.
